Automobile Engineers are engineers with knowledge in vehicle technology. Automotive engineering is a sub discipline of mechanical engineering which includes the elements of electrical, mechanical, electronics, and more importantly safety which is applied to the design, manufacture and operation of the system. Automotive engineering has sub systems which are, product engineering, development engineering, and manufacturing engineering.

Automotive engineering has three streams which are
- Product Engineering: They can also be known as design Engineers. They design every parts and components as required with respect to norms, safety and performance.
- Development Engineering: They give complete engineering attribute to the complete automobile. They are responsible for the process required to deliver all the automobile attributes. They are even responsible for the testing, validation and certification.
- Manufacturing Engineering: Manufacturing Engineers are concerned in a broad range of manufacturing activities. They design and engineer the assembly of entire medium in addition to the every part that is assembled into the vehicles. Assembly plants manufacture vehicle from individual parts they receive. Manufacturing engineers at assembly plants plan out the body shop, engine and transmission placement, and the trim and chassis area of the final assembly.
