What is Automotive Engineering? Who are Automotive Engineers?

Automobile Engineers are engineers with knowledge in vehicle technology. Automotive engineering is a sub discipline of mechanical engineering which includes the elements of electrical, mechanical, electronics, and more importantly safety which is applied to the design, manufacture and operation of the system. Automotive engineering has sub systems which are, product engineering, development engineering, and manufacturing engineering.
Automotive engineering has three streams which are
  • Product Engineering: They can also be known as design Engineers. They design every parts and components as required with respect to norms, safety and performance.
  • Development Engineering: They give complete engineering attribute to the complete automobile. They are responsible for the process required to deliver all the automobile attributes. They are even responsible for the testing, validation and certification.
  • Manufacturing Engineering: Manufacturing Engineers are concerned in a broad range of manufacturing activities. They design and engineer the assembly of entire medium in addition to the every part that is assembled into the vehicles. Assembly plants manufacture vehicle from individual parts they receive. Manufacturing engineers at assembly plants plan out the body shop, engine and transmission placement, and the trim and chassis area of the final assembly.

Marine Engineering

Marine Engineering or Naval Architecture involves the design, construction, installation, operation and support of marine equipments which makes the ship safe and habitable during sailing. Marine engineering is a part of mechanical engineering. A marine engineer should have a hands-on knowledge in the field of hydraulics, pneumatics, controls, materials, design, fabrication, electrical and many more.
Marine engineers on board regularly conduct the maintenance of propulsion and other systems which require for safe operation of the ship and required for the habitability.

What is Mechanical Engineering & Who are Mechanical Engineers

Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest and broadest disciplines in engineering discipline which design, produce and maintain the industrial machineries. Mechanical engineering is a discipline which was developed with the application of physics and material science. Mechanical engineering has many sub disciplines under it, it can be considered as a collection of many sun disciplines. Mechanical engineering mostly concerned with industrial machineries, its mechanism and functioning.
Mechanical engineers work is very challenging and fulfilling. They need to be well versed with the design and analytical skill with the ability to work in team. Mechanical engineers have to share interest with other disciplines of engineering such as electrical, etc. Mechanical engineers not only consider the engineering aspect while creating a equipment but they also consider commercial aspects of the equipment. They design the equipment with commercial aspects as well.
Mechanical engineers main job is maintaining the equipments to keep it running to get the maximum output, they have to repair and conduct maintenance program regularly. Mechanical engineers can specialise in the following fields such as
  • Manufacturing
  • Design
  • Robotics
  • Marine
  • Automotive
  • Air conditioning
  • Robotics
Mechanical engineers has to evaluate their design with the principles of motion, energy, and force to assure the product is safe, efficient, reliable, and can be produced at an economical cost.
Mechanical engineers study statics, kinematics, strength of material, material science, thermodynamics, heat transfer, manufacturing, machine design, vibrations, electrical, electronics.

Proficiency that aid Mechanical Engineers in their careers:

  • Creativity
  • Hands-on understanding
  • Knowledge management
  • Leadership/conflict resolution
  • Networking
  • Problem solving

What is engineering and who is Engineers?

Engineering is one of the broad disciplines which have several sub disciplines. Engineering is a profession of acquiring and applying technical and scientific knowledge to desired invention for the benefit of the society. The various disciplines of engineering are
· Aerospace Engineering
· Automotive Engineering
· Bio Engineering
· Civil Engineering
· Chemical Engineering
· Computer Engineering
· Electrical Engineering
· Electronic Engineering
· Mechanical Engineering ( & many disciplines)
Each discipline of engineering overlaps in the area of the application of physics, chemistry and mathematics.
The professionals who apply science of engineering are known as Engineers. Engineers apply science of physics and mathematics to find suitable solution to problem or to the invention. Engineers come across lots of challenges throughout the careers which they sort it out after weighing different choices and choose the best match to their requirement. Engineers use various software and calculations to predict the future of any product or design before it is in full scale production. Engineers always make sure to make the lives easier and comfortable without effecting environment and with safety.
